Southington Assembly Check Presentation Scrapbook

On December 30, 2008, members of Southington Assembly #27, presented a check for $586.21 to the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center. The dontation was a results of fundraising done by the Rainbow Girls. The money was raised during two events.

First, during spring vacation, the Rainbow Girls held a Rock-A-Thon in the main cafeteria of the UCONN Health Center. Rainbow Girls from both Southington Assembly and New Britain Assembly rocked in rocking chairs provided by Health Center Stafff and coordinated by Ms. Diane Bennett of the UCONN Celebrate Women Program. Employees and visitors of the Health Center placed donations in a basket as they passed by.

The second event was a Pasta Supper held at Friendship Lodge #33 in Southington in November 2008. Rainbow Girls from Southington Assembly both prepared and served salad, bread, pasta and sauce and drinks. Profits from the dinner were then added to the money raised at the Rock-A-Thon and other donations received for the Cancer Center.

Ms. Danielle Rowland planned the events as a service project during her term as Worthy Advisor of Southington Assembly, where she has been a member since 1999 - first as a Rainbow Pledge and then as a Rainbow Girl. She decided to raise money for the Cancer Center after working as a volunteer at the UCONN Health Center during Summer 2007.

The Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center not only provides state-of-the-art clinical care for patients diagnosed with cancer, but also is dedicated to public education on cancer issues, screening services to provide earlier cancer detection and cutting-edge research in the search of a cure for cancer, as well as more effective and efficient treatments.
